A TOTAL of 93% of the 19,795 single mothers registered with the Selangor Government were from the below RM1,500 income bracket.
Selangor state welfare, women affairs, science, technology and innovation committee chairman Rodziah Ismail said the state had embarked on various projects to help single mothers, including offering them skills courses and employment.
To a question from Teratai representative Jenice Lee, she said, they had helped to build 87 houses for single mothers, including 56 this year.
She said they had also repaired 79 houses including 45 this year.
“We have given out RM5,000 aid to 50 single mothers since last year to help them expand their businesses.
“The state has also offered training to 100 others,’’ she said.
She added that the state was now organising group training for those involved in business before offering them the cash aid.
She said the state had also engaged single mothers to go into cottage industries.
“We have implemented various measures and programmes in aid of single mothers,’’ she added.
